How to Pay For Your Tuition Fees

How to Pay For Your Tuition Fees

Whilst there are many exceptions to the rule, generally speaking the most successful people in the world are those who followed their education through to the end and finished with a strong college degree. Regardless of what you plans for life are or how ready you think that you are for the world of work, a college degree can help you in so many ways. Th problem with going to college is that costs are rising steadily and it is now incredibly expensive to pay for the tuition fees which you need, to take you through a college education. If you are approaching college age and wondering how on earth you are going to pay for your tuition, here are the options available to you.

Scholarship

Scholarships are free education which are handed out to people who can display excellence in either sports, academic ability or artistic ability. In order to get a scholarship like my buddy Mack Prioleau did, you not only need to possess the ability which universities are looking for but you must also apply for consideration to get a scholarship and as you can imagine, there is stiff competition for places.

Grants

Grants are handed out to people who come from families that are suffering financial hardship and this can be a great way for many students to get themselves through college. Grants, like scholarships do not need to be paid back but the application process is not simple. You must be able to prove that you are coming from a background of financial difficulty and even if you can, there is often not enough money for everyone who needs a grant, to actually get one. Make sure that you apply early if you are looking to secure a grant and that you follow the application process through completely as well as providing all of the details that are required from you.

Student Loans

The most popular way that students pay themselves through college is through the use of a student loan. These loans are given out with terms of repayment that are very reasonable and you will not have to pay anything back until you are earning a salary above a certain threshold, and even then, you will only pay back a small percentage of your salary each month. The problem with taking out a student loans that from the moment you graduate, you will be saddled with a huge amount of debt, before you have even started earning any money. Unless you have a rich family or you are fortunate enough to be given a scholarship or a grant, the student loan is often the only way in which you can pay for your tuition fees for your college education.

You can of course minimize the loan that you take out if you can make some money on your own during your time in college but this often proves hard to balance between your studies.

Top 8 Hacks For Any Student

Top 8 Hacks For Any Student

I miss my days in college an awful lot and would give anything to have the last 4 years back again, just so that I could relive it. In my dorm room, my buddy Jonathan Schrag and myself would constantly be on the look out for student hacks which could help to make our lazy lives that little bit easier ad I wanted to tell you about them today so that if you are in college or plan on going, you can make your life easier too.

Wallpaper Schedule

To avoid being late for class, simply take a photo of your schedule and set it as the wallpaper on your phone so that you can constantly see it and you will never miss a class again.

Listen, Don’t Read

You can save a hell of a lot of time from reading lectures by instead recording them on your tablet, laptop or phone, and listening to them at a later date. Doing this also means that if you happen to drop off in the lecture, you won’t have to miss out on anything.

Soda Bottle Speaker

If you want to boost the sound in your dorm room simply cut the bottom off a soda bottle, attach it to you phone and it will boost the sound up to a much better level.

Instant Chill

If you want a cold bottle of beer but you forgot to put them in the fridge, simply wet a paper towel and then wrap it around the beer, place the bottle in the fridge and in 15 minutes you will have a cold one waiting for you.

Friend Support

If you are giving a presentation in front of the class, plant a couple of friends to ask you questions that you already know the answer to so that you can wow the class and you lecturer.

Thanks Mom

It is likely that when your mom and dad first leave at college, they will stock your fridge up with plenty of goods and supplies that you hadn’t thought of. When this happens, take a photo of your fridge so that you will never have to make a shopping list again.

The Coffee Pot

The coffee pot is about more than making a cup of Joe in the morning and you should be using it for things like cooking hot dogs and pasta, minimal washing up, easy to use and it tastes great.

Reheat Pizza

When you reheat pizza from the night before, there is nothing worse than getting that chewy crust, a great way to avoid this is to place a glass of water in the microwave with your pizza and it will keep it nice and moist for that breakfast of champions.

What study hacks do you like to do to make your dorm life easier? Let us know in the comments below and share the tips and tricks that you love.

Top Tips To Help You Believe In Your New Business

Top Tips To Help You Believe In Your New Business

My buddy David J Turlington and myself very often head around the country giving motivational speeches at business seminars and answering questions from business owners and those who are interested in a career in business. I have been doing this for a few years now and occasionally I will see the same people who I saw some years ago. The one thing that always strikes me in this situation is ‘why’? The reason for this is because usually these are the people who came to me and told me that they had a great idea and they wanted to know how to execute. Worryingly, when I speak to these people again, they are yet to get things up and running.

I thought about this for some time, the reasons behind why people don’t move forward with their idea for a business and the key them that I keep coming back to is a lack of belief. For that reason I wanted to offer a few tips on how to overcome a lack of belief in your new business, and go ahead and get it off the ground.

Ignorance

If you have naysayers around you who do not think that you have got what it takes or that you do not have a strong enough idea for business, you need to be belligerent and ignore them. This is not always easy and the best way to work out who to ignore and who’s constructive criticism to listen to is to see how they are telling you, is it from a standpoint of jealousy or nastiness? If so then cut those people out of your life and push on regardless. If you cannot stomach the necessary criticism now, you won’t do very well when you get into business.

Lose Fear

What are you afraid of? Sit down and make a list of all of the worst case scenarios, you will find that there are actually very few and financial failure is probably about as bad as it can get. Nobody will die if you fail at business and you life will not be over,  highlight the fears that you have and tackle them head on.

Obstacles

If you are truly passionate about your idea and you think that it can be a success then you need to hold on to this and use it to defeat any obstacles that are in your path. Once again, write a list of the obstacles that stand in your way and that make a strategic plan as to how you will overcome each and every one of them. Many people fail to focus on what their obstacles actually are, they just have it in their mind that they exist. If you can actually detail what the things are that are standing in your way then you can own them, beat them and stop them from preventing you form believing in yourself.

Why Engineering is On The Rise

Why Engineering is On The Rise

Source

A study perfumed last year revealed that engineering is the single most popular major for college students throughout the USA. This is a statistic which surprised many who believed that business would be the most popular election for many students thanks to the rise in entrepreneurialism. After the figures were released, I sat down and had a chat with master engineer Reddy Kancharla to try to understand why engineering was such a popular choice for so many people.

Rewarding

Engineering is a career which offers those who work within the profession a very rewarding job in terms of salary as well as personal accomplishment and professional success. This is one of the key reasons why many young Americans have decided that this is the career path for them and it is something which appeals to many younger students who are looking at making the most out of their career. Engineers are some of the highest earners in the country and when this fact is considered with a sense of accomplishment, it becomes a highly desirable career choice.

Security

There is a great level of job security for engineers as they are always in demand across a wide range of different industries. Engineers are not only reasonable for building highways, buildings and bridges, they also help to create chemicals and medicines, computer programs and airplanes amongst a whole host of other products. For this reason there is very little turnover in terms of engineering staff and it is this security which makes the profession endearing to many students.

Transferrable Skills

Whilst the specifics may change amongst the various branches of engineering, many of the skills remain the same which makes them easily transferrable. This means that someone who spends years in the profession of engineering can turn their hand to another area of the profession without too much upheaval. The result of this is that many see it as an opportunity to have a ling and varied career in which they can find great success.

Career Path

The large majority of engineering firms have a clear and structured career ladder which anyone can climb should they so wish. There is a wide variety of different jobs and positions within engineering from management to other leadership positions and those who are ambitious about their career can find a route to the top through this profession. Young people are very often hungry for success and aim for the stars, engineering gives them the chance to do this in a measured and structured way.

Ultimately the engineers of this world are the creators of all that we see and do and for anyone who has a creative streak in them, a career in engineering makes perfect sense.

Are you an engineer or currently taking a major in engineering? What made you decide upon this career? Let us know in the comments section below.

Why Attending a Church is So Important

Why Attending a Church is So Important

For many years I was very private about my faith, I rarely went to a church at all and it was always my preference to worship at home, on my own. I had a chance meeting with an old friend who invited me to come to his church the Westside Family Church, I reluctantly went and it turned out to be one of the best decisions that I ever made.

The fact that I am now heavily involved in a church has not changed the way in which I worship at home, but it has given me a great deal of additional benefits which are attached to my faith in God. If you aren’t sure whether going to a church is the right thing for you, here are some of the reasons why I would say that it is a great choice to make.

Community

The level of community at my church is incredible and it works on a number of different levels. The first part of the community is the one which I am now a part of, the church community, a tight knit group of fellow believers who work for each other and their families to ensure that everyone is looked after. The other aspect of community which I enjoy in this church is that of the outer community and I have been able to help people near and far through my involvement and volunteering which has taken place through the church.

Praising Worship

Worshiping at home is very often a quiet and introspective event, something which I believe is necessary to my beliefs. With this being said, I have now been introduced to a form of worship which uses praise and song to give thanks, my church even uses electric guitars to really turn the levels up when it comes to how we worship. This is something which can only be done when in a community and it is exhilarating to be a part of and in my opinion, brings us all closer to God.

Learnings

I am an avid theologian and enjoy reading my Bible and the Holy Scriptures very much, this is all well and good but going to classes and being taught important values during mass are equally as important and it was something which I missed out on in the past. When a religious leader stands at the from to the church, reads a passage from the Gospel and then explains who it is relative to our modern day lives, you take much more from it than you would if you were only reading from a piece of text.

Aside from learning, I have also been able to use the wealth of knowledge at my church to answer questions of faith which I have had in the past. Any problems or questions which you may have can be easily answered by those within your church and it is an aspect of going to church that I have enjoyed the most.

Three Ways to Streamline Your Business

Three Ways to Streamline Your Business

In today’s business climate, companies large and small alike can ill-afford the excessive inefficiencies that come from poor management. There are numerous ways of reducing your company’s waste and streamlining your operations, and any areas you can identify for improvement are worth exploring. Here, we look at three of the most popular and efficient means of streamlining a business. The specific steps will depend on the type of business you run, but the broad steps outlined below are applicable to just about any kind of business.

Automation

Automation is a big part of any streamlining initiative and, as the name suggests, involves automating as many tasks as possible so that they can be completed without tying down a member of your staff and taking up valuable and unnecessary time. If you have any talented programmers on staff this is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of their skills and provide them with a new challenge. You should consider which administrative tasks your company is currently doing that could easily be done by a specially designed program; data entry tasks are always good targets for automation.

Invest in New Skills for Existing Employees

When looking at gaps in your team’s skillset, consider whether it would be more economical and a better long-term investment to train an existing employee with the necessary skills rather than hiring from the outside. An increasing number of companies are finding themselves with employees who hold degrees and other training that they are not currently deploying. Many of these employees represent a huge missed opportunity in terms of a potential pool from which an employer can draw talent.

Online degrees are a cost-effective method of investing in your staff over the long term. For example, if you are operating a relatively small business whose accounting needs are simple, you could consider selecting an employee to undertake an online masters in accounting degree. An online MSA program will equip your staff member with the necessary skills to carry out accounting for your business. Other good degrees to consider are coding and programming, which will assist in automation, as well as degrees relating to skills such as marketing that you would often have to outsource.

Make Data Work for You

Data is one of the most powerful tools modern businesses have at their disposal, allowing you to learn about your employees, your company, and your company’s performance and efficiency. Data analytics is the science of analyzing and interpreting data and while you will need to get the permission of the relevant parties to collect data on them, you should consider hiring a data analytics firm to help you identify if and how you can use data collection and analysis to your advantage. Data mining is the process of obtaining data and generally it is most efficient to do this in a passive and broad manner.

Streamlining your business needs to be part of an ongoing process of constant review and evaluation. In this way, you can build new ideas upon old ones and grow and evolve your strategy.

Four Reasons to Consider Majoring in Law at College

Four Reasons to Consider Majoring in Law at College

If you are soon to be applying to college, then one of the biggest questions that you’re probably asking yourself right now is what to major in. The subjects that you choose to study in college truly can shape the rest of your life and are likely to have a huge effect on how your future career pans out. When it comes to choosing the subject for your college degree program, you might be lucky enough to already know exactly what you’d like to study. But, if like many students you’re still on the fence about choosing a program of study, then coming to a final decision could be tricky. Law is an excellent subject to study at college and it can open up a multitude of future opportunities for you. We’ve listed some of the best reasons to choose to study law.

#1. Great Career Opportunities

If you’re hoping to take on a college degree program that will set you up for life when it comes to your career, then look no further than studying law. The legal field is huge, giving you plenty of opportunities to branch out into different sectors. For example, you could decide to spend your career fighting cases in court on behalf of people who have been accused of a crime or help others with a health care law degree.

#2. High Demand

Another reason to consider studying law at college is that qualified lawyers are always in high demand. No matter what happens with the economy, people will always need good lawyers to fight their corner, whether that be a criminal law case, business, and financial law, or a healthcare law case. Regardless of your area of specialty and expertise, you can rest assured that your services will always be needed by certain members of the general public.

#3. Be Your Own Boss

One of the best things about studying for a masters in health law is that there’s the opportunity to become your own boss further down the line. Whilst many newly qualified lawyers will start their careers working for an established law firm, there’s nothing to stop you from starting your own law firm once you have gained knowledge, experience, and built up a client base. If a self-employed career in the future is something that appeals to you, then studying for your degree in law could be the ideal first step to take.

#4. Continue Learning

If you are the type of person who loves to learn and couldn’t imagine anything worse than finding a career where you stop learning new things, then the law could be the perfect option for you when it comes to choosing your college degree program. As a lawyer, there is always going to be the opportunity for you to progress and learn new things, whether that involves taking on a new branch of law or improving your knowledge in your chosen field of the legal industry.

Are you thinking of studying law at college? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Starting a Consulting Service- Building Credibility

Starting a Consulting Service- Building Credibility

Source

In a previous article, we talked about several business ideas you can test over a weekend. There are plenty of opportunities to explore, especially in today’s growing market. Aside from developing your own mobile app and starting a service company based on market demand, you can also offer consulting services.

Aside from skills and experience, there is one crucial equity you need to jumpstart your consulting firm: credibility. Developing credibility is not something that can be done overnight, but the tips we are about to discuss in this article will help you get started right away.

Credentials

One of the first things you need to do to start developing your credibility as a consultant is gathering credentials to support your skills and expertise. You may already have certificates and degrees that back your expertise in a specific field; these are great starting points to build on.

Of course, you can also choose to pursue a higher degree in the specific field of your choice to earn more credibility. If you want to open a public relations consulting firm, for example, pursuing an online public relations degree is a good investment to make.

I said an online degree because online degrees are easier to access, more affordable, and equally valuable compared to offline degrees. Reputable universities such as George Washington University are making their online SPR program – and programs in other fields – widely accessible.

These are accredited programs, so you can rest assured knowing that your master’s degree will be just as valuable as an offline degree. In fact, online courses are usually more in line with market demands, so you will also pick up relevant new skills along the way.

Online Presence

The next important ingredient to add is an online presence. You can’t expect to reach success in today’s market without having and maintaining a strong online presence. Establishing a strong social media presence and setting up a representative website to tie everything together is something you should do as soon as possible.

We are used to searching for products and services – and other information – we need online. Potential clients will also search for your past work and other details online. With a strong and positive online presence in place, converting potential clients into paying customers will be a lot easier to do.

Happy Clients

The most important ingredient of them all, however, is a reference. Happy clients are your best marketers. They will tell others about your exceptional work, boosting your credibility to new heights while attracting more potential clients in the process.

Don’t hesitate to go the extra mile to ensure maximum client satisfaction when working on projects. The happier your clients are, the bigger the investment you make to your credibility and future success. It won’t be long before you start getting calls from friends of past clients, asking if you can help them with their projects.

Credibility is everything in the service industry, especially if you are offering consulting services. These are some of the elements you need to develop a strong credibility and achieve the success you are aiming for from the beginning.

Older kids who are already driving can also be a big help.  You can send them to pick up groceries, take clothes to the dry cleaners, and bus smaller kids to and from their after-school activities. To learn more about how you can get your family to help you out with chores, please check out this link.

Take Important Tests on The Weekend

If you have chosen to go to back to college online, as we have suggested above, you will have some flexibility.  While you can go to class at night when you get off work, it’s probably a good idea to take your important tests on the weekend.  This will give you more time to study and you will be fresh and not tired from working.  If you would like to learn some more test taking tips, this website has some great ideas.

These simple tips will help you balance work and school life and keep you from getting stressed out.  Going back to school online is a great way to accomplish your goals and you will still have time to spend with your family.
