The First Cannabis Restaurant Comes from a Sustainable Weed Farm

While the US slowly catches up to Amsterdam standards, Lowell Farms has done something new and inspiring in West Hollywood with their sustainable cannabis cafe. However, before Lowell Farms was able to open for business, the company had to create a special cafe that complied with California law.

Weed cafes are just now becoming popular in America, but these restaurants and coffee shops have been going strong in places like Amsterdam for many years. Lowell Farms saw the opportunity to combine a restaurant with a consumption cafe, but the company faces legal ramifications of they simply built a restaurant that served edibles in addition to allowing vamping and smoking weed inside.

Current Weed Cafe Regulations in California

The owners behind the cafe saw the need to split into two separate businesses in order to have a weed cafe that also sold delicious food. The company needed a cannabis consumption lounge license to operate their West Hollywood business, but this license did not allow smoking and vaping alongside the sale of cannabis-infused food and drinks.

The company decided to separate its businesses, but they created a three-level business that included a restaurant and kitchen adjacent to the lounge. This workaround satisfied California law, and many patrons don’t even realize the special way that the cafe is set up to accommodate their needs.

How Did Lowell Farms Set Up a Restaurant and Weed Cafe

The new company moved operations to one part of the lot, while keeping the kitchen separate. The entire space comprises 20,000 square feet with a 1,600 square-foot cafe. In the cafe section, patrons are only allowed to smoke and vape, but they can order food and beverages. No alcohol is served on the premises, however.

There’s also a 2,500 square-foot lounge area that allows for edible consumption, as well as smoking and vaping. There’s also an 1,800 square-foot garden where smokers can hang out and consume edibles.

With this setup, the kitchen is separated into an area of its own where the food is prepared. The separate dining areas are under different business licenses that allow Lowell Farms to operate the unique restaurant without any legal ramifications, so far.

Guests to Lowell Farms Cafe are able to order food from the adjacent restaurant, and it’s delivered to them in the cafe side. By keeping everything separate, Lowell Farms figured out a way to satisfy customers who have been looking for a weed-friendly dining establishment in Los Angeles.

Lowell Farms is the first to figure out this workaround, and they have the only legalized weed cafe that “serves food” in the United States.

What About Lowell Farms’ Sustainable Cannabis Product?

The cafe also has another mission: to serve food in a green, sustainable environment. Lowell Farms is famous for its sustainable cannabis products. Before the cafe was born, the weed producer was well known for its unique cultivation and high quality strains. There are multiple ways to grow cannabis so that less electricity is consumed while still delivering a superior cannabis product. In fact, many have experienced their top product, which are pre-rolled cannabis cigarettes known as Lowell Smokes.

Since this is the country’s first ever sustainable cannabis cafe, Lowell Farms wanted to start their West Hollywood weed cafe off on the right foot. The owners wanted a completely sustainable restaurant that even used reclaimed wood for tables, as well as reclaimed silverware.

The new WeHo restaurant offers something that many foodies have been clamoring for, a restaurant that serves delicious food alongside a weed cafe. The restaurant is truly beautiful with open air dining on the roof and lush green tendrils that hang from the ceiling. It’s the perfect dining atmosphere for the modern weed lover.
