The idea is simple. Save up enough money to travel long term and then stretch your dollars (and your time off) with jobs as you go.
Being a digital nomad is largely determined by your occupation and if it is possible to work remotely. Instead, I wanted to focus on jobs that anyone could do while traveling or living abroad. Unless you become an influencer or plan on writing a killer blog, not many people can travel full time and make good money. You can make decent money along the way to fund additional adventures or spend more time abroad, but you likely won’t be pulling six figures.
But that’s ok. Because sometimes life is about the experience and not the paycheck. And if you’re able to serve beers in Australia for six months to fund a Bali surf trip, it won’t matter that you didn’t pull $120,000 last year.
Working Holiday visa
If you want to spend significant time working abroad, a working holiday visa program is a great option.
Working holiday visas “are the easiest way to experience a new culture,” said Tommy Walker, the British travel blogger behind The Wandering Walker. “You get to earn money, travel to a new place, and save for a new adventure.”
Depending on your nationality, and age, the program allows you to live in a foreign country, and work a nonprofessional job like bartending for a set amount of time, usually between six to 24 months. An added benefit is that (usually) you can stay in one country much longer than if you entered with a normal tourist visa.
Tutor
Become an online tutor. The website Cambly helps you get paid to chat with people from around the world. While you’re doing the tutoring, the site automatically tracks the time you spend, paying $10.20 an hour. While that might not sound like a lot, consider the fact that you can set your hours, work as little, or as much as you want—and if you’re living abroad, $10.20 an hour can go a long way.
Online Gambling
It doesn’t seem that serious when you put it out, but a lot of people surf on the gamble tide. The ease to access casinos wherever you are makes for a great ally in making money traveling.
The most common way people profit from this is thanks to the incredible concurrency the market is experiencing. For example, Online Casino Canada offers promotions such as free bets to try and get you to sign up with them rather than their competitors. You can’t withdraw the free bet, but you can keep any winnings from it. If you are clever you can hedge your bets and whatever the outcome withdraw most of the free bet.
Sell Your Photos and Videos
If you’re traveling, you’re likely surrounded by gorgeous photo opportunities. And now that digital cameras are widely available, photography and videography can be a good way to earn an income.
Stock websites make it easy for photographers and videographers to upload their work, then will market on your behalf and create passive income for you while you’re off shooting the next beautiful location. Stock agencies looking for submissions include Shutterstock, Photoshelter, Fotolia, and iStock
